facets of community herbalism
Food as medicine
What we put into our bodies is foundational to our health. In my practice I explore how to accessibly eat like our ancestors in the context of our chaotic modern world. In the absence of a monolithic one-size-fits-all “healthy” diet, let’s work together to find what tastes delicious and feels good in your body!
herbal allies
Improving your health can be hard work, but you don’t have to do it alone! In fact, you may have friendly flora growing right in your own backyard. When selected with intention and worked with in the appropriate applications, herbs can be a remarkable support to the overall health of your body.
Connection
How we relate to the world is incredibly important to our wellbeing. In our work, I encourage folks to consider their relationships to the land they live on, those close to them, their broader local community, and most importantly, their relationships to themselves. When working on health issues, it is critical to consider the full context in which we exist to get to the root of illness.
SJI Herbal Mutual Aid Group
One of my favorite parts of being an herbalist is getting out into the community and sharing knowledge and resources. I work locally with the Herbal Mutual Aid Group through the San Juan Island Grange to get like-minded people connected.
We meet in the evenings every second Wednesday of the month at the Grange to talk about plants, drink tea, share resources and make herbal medicine. All are welcome to attend, one does not need a background in herbalism to enjoy the company of other herby folk!
